Episode #29 Question Boarding Party or Haording Party?

Missions often have passengers, and while we'd all love for the exotic dancers to be interactive, let just think about the possibilities of using marines for combat. Either in space or on land.

Being target jammed is bad enough, but to be forced to eject from your ship would seriously be no fun. Sad  Adding them into planet capture to aid in taking system sov however would be an interesting addition.

It would actually be very cool to use them for both tasks. Using them to invade enemy ships would need to be looked at very carefully because shutting down subsystems and stuff like that has a huge potential to be overpowered a lot.

Nay on the ship boarding option.

But It would be cool if marines could be used to take control of POSes. In quite large quantities.

Sov flipping: so many changes to EVE Empire mechanics and so many ramifications would occur, that I believe it will be very hard to implement. Though it would be quite cool.

Ship to Ship boarding would be pretty cool, however extremely frustrating Smiley

Landing them against stations or planets however would be very interesting way to remove sov or to do factional warfare. It would also, in theory require a hole new kind of ship as there is nothing in game currently designed specifically to land troops. My guess is you would need to have a "LST/LHA" version of the carriers to do it...that would be cool.  and be a interesting fight as you have carrieresk level ships holding station over a planet being covered by other ships as they attempt to force a landing....

Re: Episode #29 Question Boarding Party or Haording Party?

This was part of another space turned base game I played about 7 years back. Soldiers were used to take over planets and they had to contest with the planets population. You needed more soldiers the higher the planets population and 1 soldier was equal to the strength of 10 Locals.

I think it would be an interesting approach to taking space. As for boarding parties on ships, I'm against that. We already have a great combat mechanism right now which requires pilots to manage a large number of things as it is.

Would marines from the defending ship be able the fend off the boarders in this scenario?

Re: Episode #29 Question Boarding Party or Haording Party?

Nevin, great question.

I'd imagine that if there were to be boarding parties, there should be a counter, or resists. So having x number of marines to defend would have to be an option now that you bring it up.

If it goes Star Trek style, from my understanding shield tanking might have a nice comeback. The Gals and Amarr chaps really won't like that though.

Catching up on some fly reckless podcasts. Thanks for the shout out in espisode 29. I know a lot of people complained about the music volume, but I actually liked it. Might be coz it was the same music that was used in Clear Skies 2. It was a little on the loud side, but background music is nice. Please don't drop it, even if you decide to turn it down.
